A number of control keys are installed on the steering wheel, to which connecting wires are connected. In order to ensure reliable contact in all circuits when the steering wheel is rotated, a device called «clock spring». This name is based on the similarity of the spiral flexible contact busbars of the device with a clock spring. In fact, this device is a rotating contact joint. This type of device does not use sliding contacts. The freedom of rotation of the steering wheel without disturbing the contact is ensured by a sufficient length of the spiral package of flexible tires. This length should be enough to turn the steering wheel 3-3.5 turns in each direction.
Attention!
- Before removing the airbag, turn off the power to the vehicle's on-board network, then wait at least 1 minute.
- When removing the steering wheel, special care must be taken when removing the driver's airbag.
- Disassembly and reassembly of the airbag may impair the operation of the system, resulting in serious injury or death.
- Incorrect connection of the airbag wiring can activate the airbag, If a fault is found in the connectors, replace the wiring harness.
- Do not use an ohmmeter to test the airbag, as this may activate the airbag. To do this, you need to use the on-board diagnostics system in a service station.
- When carrying the airbag, hold it so that the working side is not directed towards you.
- Do not place the airbag upside down, as if it is accidentally deployed, the body of the airbag can be thrown away by the airbag that deploys in any direction and cause injury.
