Replacement of ball joints

The upper and lower ball joints consist of a ball pin and a synthetic liner. The body of the lower ball joint is pressed into the pivot pin, the upper ball joint is fixed in the upper transverse arm. The ball joints are lubricated for life and therefore maintenance free. To ensure the perfect operation of ball joints, protective covers are of great importance to prevent the penetration of dirt and sand. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly check the condition of the ball joints. Damaged protective covers must be replaced. A ball joint that has been in operation for a long time with a damaged protective cover must be replaced. A damaged upper ball joint is replaced with an upper wishbone assembly. The ball pin can be checked using a piece of pipe 150 mm long, which is placed on the hinge and moves evenly in the forward and reverse directions. If there is a large gap or a grinding sound occurs during movement, the ball joint must be replaced. Pressing in the ball joint housing is only possible at a workshop. Easier to remove the control arm and replace it with ball joint (section 13.8).

Removal and installation of transverse suspension arms

The removal and installation of the transverse arm is closely related to the removal and installation of the front suspension half and the removal and installation of the pivot pin. After reading the relevant sections, this work will not cause difficulties.
