Driving with a faulty clutch
If the clutch fails on the road, for example, does not engage or disengage, then, following the rules below, you can continue driving and drive to a nearby destination or the nearest service station. With careful operation of the accelerator pedal and shift lever, you can even upshift and downshift.
Transmission off. For this you need to remove «gas» and move the gearshift lever to the neutral position. If the transmission sticks, you should add a little «gas».
Start. Before starting, warm up the engine so that it cannot immediately stall. Stop the engine and engage 1st gear. Turn on the starter. Your vehicle will start but will jerk until the engine speed matches the transmission speed. If you are not going to change gears while driving, on a flat area you can start in the described way from 2nd gear.
Upshifting. In 1st gear, depress the accelerator pedal lightly until the engine revs just above idle (about 1000 min-1). Then drop a little «gas» and move the gearshift lever to neutral. (If the transmission is sticking, add a little «gas»). Now release the accelerator pedal and carefully move the shift lever to the 2nd gear position. At equal engine and gearbox speeds, 2nd gear should engage almost independently.
If you miss the moment of shifting, again add a little «gas», to enable transmission.
If nothing works, stop and try everything from the beginning.
Switching to higher gears is carried out only at low speeds: to 2nd - at about 20 km / h, to 3rd - at 30 km / h, to 4th - at 40 km / h, to 5th - at 50 km/h.
Downshifting it is better to produce at low engine speeds and at low speeds.
1. Reset a little first «gas» and turn off transmission.
2. Lightly press the accelerator pedal to increase engine speed. At the same time move the shift lever to the next lower gear position. If the engine is running at the right speed, the gear will engage with little or no effort.
