Knocking in the engine

Knocking in a warm engine almost always indicates bearing damage. Most often, damage occurs on the connecting rod bearings, less often on the crankshaft support bearings. Replacing a damaged bearing requires a lot of repair work.

Bearing diagnostics

Accelerate and then release the gas. If a knocking sound occurs that does not stop with a decrease in the number of revolutions, stop driving and park the car.

A strong knock at high engine speeds, decreasing or disappearing when the gas is released, indicates a major bearing failure.
