The location of the rubber hangers for mounting the exhaust pipe
The exhaust system on all models consists of three parts: the exhaust pipe in which the catalyst is installed, the middle part with an intermediate muffler and the rear part with a muffler.
The mounting of the middle and rear parts of the exhaust system is carried out using rubber suspensions. The exhaust pipe is attached through a bracket to the gearbox.
The task of the exhaust system is to remove exhaust gases into the atmosphere so that even a minimal amount of them does not enter the passenger compartment, as well as to reduce engine noise to a low level. In order for the exhaust system to perform its functions, it must be in good condition. The condition of the exhaust system also affects engine power and fuel consumption.
Removing
1. The exhaust system can be removed from the car as an assembly or in separate parts.
2. Before removing any part of the exhaust system, lift the corresponding part of the vehicle and fix it on stands or place the vehicle over a viewing hole.
Exhaust pipe
1. Using wooden blocks or a jack, support the catalytic converter or exhaust pipe at its lowest point. Remove the lambda sensor from the front exhaust pipe.
2. Unscrew the nuts securing the flange connections of the front exhaust pipe to the middle part of the exhaust pipe.
3. Remove the bolts securing the exhaust manifold bracket to the transmission (see fig. Arrangement of bolts of fastening of an arm of a reception exhaust pipe to a transmission).
4. Unscrew the nuts and disconnect the exhaust pipe from the turbocharger or exhaust manifold. Remove the exhaust pipe from under the vehicle.
Catalytic converter
1. Unscrew the nuts of the flange connection of the catalytic converter with the exhaust pipe.
2. Unscrew the nut and remove the pinch bolt from the ring that secures the catalytic converter to the intermediate pipe.
3. Disconnect the catalytic converter from the intermediate pipe and remove it from under the vehicle.
Rear exhaust system
1. Unscrew the nut and remove the bolt from the compression ring that secures the rear of the exhaust system to the middle.
2. Remove the rubber hangers from the exhaust pipe and remove the exhaust pipe from under the car.
Exhaust system assembly
1. Using planks, support the catalytic converter or exhaust pipe at its lowest point. Remove the lambda sensor from the front exhaust pipe.
2. Unscrew the nuts of the flange connection that secures the front exhaust pipe to the middle part of the exhaust pipe.
3. Remove the bolts securing the exhaust manifold mounting bracket to the transmission.
4. Using an assistant, release the exhaust system from the rubber hangers and remove it from under the car.
Installation
1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following points.
2. Remove all traces of corrosion from the connecting flanges and replace the gaskets.
3. Check the condition of the exhaust system rubber mounts and replace if necessary.
4. Replace the seal at the joint between the middle and rear parts of the exhaust system.
5. On couplings with compression rings, before connecting the exhaust pipes, apply a thin layer of special paste to seal the connection.
6. When installing the exhaust system, leave a sufficient and uniform clearance between the parts of the exhaust system and the bottom of the body.
