Before launch
Before starting the engine, immobilize the vehicle by applying the parking brake.
On manual transmission models, place the shift lever in neutral, and on automatic transmission models, place the selector lever in P or N.
Starting a cold engine
Turn the key in the ignition switch to position 2. This will turn on the battery charging indicator lamp, and on models with diesel engines, the diesel engine preheating system operation indicator lamp will also light up. Turning off the indicator light for the diesel engine preheating system indicates that the engine can be started.
Outside air temperature above 0°С
Without depressing the accelerator pedal, turn the key in the ignition switch to the right as far as it will go and release the key after starting the engine.
Outside temperature below 0°С
Gently depress the clutch and accelerator pedals. Turn the key in the ignition switch to the right until it stops and after starting the engine, release the key, and then slowly release the accelerator pedal.
It is not recommended to interrupt the process of starting the engine, since with a cold engine, it is possible that the engine will not start when you try again.
Starting a hot engine
Turn the key in the ignition switch to the right as far as it will go and release the key after starting the engine.
Engine stop
Stop the vehicle, lock it in this position and turn the ignition key to position 0.
After high operating conditions of the engine, for example, after driving in mountainous conditions, do not turn it off immediately after stopping, but let it run for at least 1 minute at idle, so that there is no heat stagnation.
Directions
If the engine does not start on the first attempt, turn off the ignition and after 20-30 seconds, turn on the starter again. It is not recommended to turn on the starter for more than 10-15 seconds.
Since the ignition lock has a lock to prevent restarting a running engine, set the ignition key to position 0 before restarting the engine.
After starting the engine, first of all pay attention to the oil pressure. Do not rev a cold engine until the oil pressure is correct.
If the diesel engine preheating indicator does not come on when starting the engine, contact a service station.
If the car is constantly operated in regions where the air temperature is below -18°C, it is recommended to contact a Mercedes-Benz service station and install a coolant heating unit.
