If the engine does not start and the starter does not work
If it is an automatic transmission model, make sure the shift lever is in P or N.
Open the hood and make sure the battery terminals are clean and live.
Turn on the headlights and try to start the engine. If the headlights dim when you try to start the engine, you probably have a dead battery. In this case, try starting the engine from an external source.
If the engine does not start even though the starter is working properly
Check for fuel in the tank.
Check for moisture on electrical components under the hood. Turn off the ignition, then wipe the wet components with a dry cloth. Apply water repellent spray (WD-40 or equivalent) to electrical connectors. Pay special attention to the ignition coil wiring connector and high voltage wires. Diesel engines do not usually suffer from this disease.
A Check that the high voltage wires are securely connected to the spark plugs (4-cylinder engine shown).
IN Check that the high voltage wires are securely connected to the ignition distributor (4-cylinder engine shown).
WITH Check that the high voltage wire and electrical connectors are securely connected to the ignition coil (4-cylinder engine shown).
D Check the connection of the electrical connector to the ignition control unit (with the ignition off).
E Check the condition and reliability of the connection of the terminals to the battery.
Triggering from an external source
Attention! Make sure the ignition is off before connecting an external battery.
Attention! Make sure that all electrical equipment (headlights, heaters, windshield wipers, etc.) off.
Attention! Take into account all special precautions prescribed on the battery.
Attention! Cars must not touch each other.
Attention! Make sure the shift lever is in neutral (or PARK in case of automatic transmission).
Connect one end of the heavy gauge red wire to the positive terminal of the discharged battery.
Connect the other end of the red wire to the positive terminal of the external battery.
Connect one end of the heavy gauge black wire to the negative terminal of the external battery.
Connect the other end of the heavy gauge black wire to the powertrain or bodywork of the vehicle being started, away from the battery.
Make sure the wires do not come into contact with the fan, drive belts, or other rotating parts of the vehicle.
Start the engine using an external source (while the engine of the source car must be idling). After starting the car engine with a dead battery, disconnect the wires in reverse order.
